  • POTATOES
People tend to fear potatoes, because of their reputation as a waist widening starch. The white potato, prepared in a healthy way is now considered as an important part of our diet. 
Potatoes are nutrient dense and high in fibre. Potatoes rank high on glycaemic index, which is why endurance athletes, consume them before workout.  
You can also have French fries, but in a right quantity as a side to something lean and nutritious like salad. However, freshly prepared in house fries are best to consume.


  • CHOCOLATE

Earlier some research revealed chocolate as unhealthy with an increased risk of obesity. Sadly, many people avoided chocolate for years. These studies were made on milk chocolates and they failed to investigate the potential health benefits of dark chocolates. 
Now, it has been said that dark chocolates are a part of healthy diet. The antioxidants in dark chocolate can increase athletic performance, reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease. 
Also, you can find some good nutrients in a cup of hot chocolate. Skip the pre made packets as they contain sugar. Add pure cocoa powder, with teaspoon of raw honey and almond milk, is a recipe of a healthy cup of hot chocolate.


  • PEANUT BUTTER

Old researches indicated that peanut butter contributed to weight gain. Now the studies have discovered healthy fats in peanut butter, which actually reduces the risk of heart diseases. Peanut butter contributes to weight loss and is full of essential vitamins and minerals. 
The protein and fiber in this super spread will satisfy your cravings. Avoid spread with added sugar and oil. Go for natural peanut butter.


  • WHITE RICE

White rice has been earlier blacklisted as a bad carbohydrate. There were studies that indicated that they cause weight gain and risk of diabetes. 
Now, it has been told that white rice is a great recovery food for those who does extreme workouts to restore sugar level and enhance muscle growth. However, brown rice is still recommended for those who don’t exercise regularly, but white rice is indicated as a good source of carbohydrates for athletes.


  • COFFEE

People tend to think that coffee is unhealthy, and it leads to anxiety and increased blood sugar. But, coffee is one of the largest sources of antioxidants which is linked to decrease prevention. Coffee also happens to be one of the best natural pre-workout drinks. 
For you athletes out there, caffeine can even help you to run faster and play harder. Just be careful not to overdo it. Public health experts say the safe range is 3-4 cups of coffee per day.


  • EGG YOLKS

Egg yolks are a nutrition powerhouse. Many people are scared of by the high cholesterol levels. Research has shown that saturated fat, not cholesterol is the prime culprit behind heart health. Egg yolks are rich in various vitamins and minerals and maintain healthy cells of body. 
Also, consuming whole eggs increases our metabolism. Despite this, health groups advise limiting yolks to 4 per week.

  • POPCORN

Popcorn is 100% whole grain and packed with antioxidants, making for a great snack. With air popped varieties, you can have 3 cups of crunchy goodness for just 100 calories. 
However, popcorn made at home are the best as you can avoid butter and add some salt and you’ve got yourself a perfect movie time munch.

  • SMOOTHIES

Smoothies from malls, cafes or any restaurants are not the ones, we are talking about here. The stores add milk, cream and even ice creams that can lead to bad health. You can have 100% fruit or yogurt smoothie with less sugar and can still have fresh fruit benefit. 
Better make smoothies at home with fruits and almond milk. But, don’t make it too often as then it will lead to weight gain. However, use fruits like blueberries, raspberries as they have less sugar content.

  • BREAD

Having tons of white bread full of empty carbs doesn’t offer much value, while 100% whole grain, is wildly nutritious. Whole wheat breads contain complex carbs, fibre, iron and magnesium and they are highly suggested. 
Here’s a trick
Look for the ingredients of the bread and if it contains whole wheat at first then it’s a good choice. But, don’t eat too much of bread also or it will lead to weight gain.

  • PASTA

Why crave for pasta when you can include them in your diet. 
You can take food that are meant to be enjoyed and make them nutritious. 
But we are not talking about that cheesy pasta that is served at cafes. You can find fresh pasta in grocery store or at farmers market. 
Balance out pasta with some protein, healthy fats like olive oil, and don’t forget some veggies. Also, studies have shown that people who ate pasta on regular basis were able to stick to a balanced healthy diet easily.




No matter how inherently healthy a food is, dousing it in oil or butter or sugar can diminish its nutritional benefits.
